The artist Mariona Millà, (Barcelona 1954)

-In her extensive experience, Millà has been exploring in the field of plastic arts for more than thirty – five years.

-Many, many exhibitions and the broadcasting of her work in different parts of Europe and the U.S.A.

-Always researching into pictorial art, her work includes mural techniques and murals and sculptures that show the originality of her aesthetic based on a European neo – expressionism, as well as sustaining a powerful Mediterranean content.

-Her social commitment and her close identification with her Country, with its peoples and also with its culture act as a sound basis on which to embrace (both in its themes as in its innovative techniques) her main areas of interest.

 -She works on the customs of the people in the municipal areas of Barcelona, the portraits of representative figures and anonymous portraits “Portraits and customs.” She works on the plastic research of the theatre, dance and musical disciplines, with the design of settings and figurines, masks, etc. “Okupas in the Prado Museum”; “ Dr. Faustus turns on the lights” etc.

-The study of the urban human in Barcelona and in Paris. “Hot streets / the Chinese quarter.”

-The ethological – plastic of the “urban human.”

-The urban setting “ Fragments of Barcelona” – It includes a fantastic universe of its own in an imaginary world of beasts of which soon she will present her last part in the form of a tetralogy “The soul of the beasts  IV.”

-Also a mythical and legendary world with the customs and roots in the Catalan culture, “Iris of Divine Catalunya.”

During the last six years she has involved herself in other cultures of a Mediterranaean character, in connection with them and to assemble them together; for their gastronomy, for their lights, their dances, their social struggles, for their religions.. “Mar mestizo” is a monographic work, one that is at present on its journey.

 -She participates in settings and performances in the theatre and in cinema. “Mónica del Raval”. It is her latest documentary; A full – length film, in which she takes part, which was presented in the  XII Festival of Spanish and South –American cinema in Málaga, and also in the forthcoming Festival of Spanish Cinema in Nantes.

-Her urban work wanders with interest through different places to which she travels in order to drink directly from the original springs and work on their customs and which she completes with her fifth variation, “Energies of the World”

With all this she constructs the socio – aesthetic study of the cities that, due to her personality, such as Barcelona, Tarragona, Rome, Paris, London, Hamburg, Prague. Others more distance away like New York, La Habana, Cairo, Luxor, Istanbul y Nairobi. On this last city she is preparing a complex exhibition of paintings and sculptures.

On the teaching side of her thirty - eight years of trajectory she is driving again the dissemination of art and focuses in her new book on “fall in love with painting”, an essay in poetic prose. The aim: to incite a curious public to enter into the magical universe of art and its secrets. It will be published by Viena Edicions.

 

The exhibitions, her participations, and her settings, which are always impressive, both in their quality and in their extent, includes the involvement of other professionals in the form of explanatory texts, presentations, analysis, or by the work done jointly
